On 31 May 2006 abc 7, KGO TV reported:
Research is showing that Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme is an effective means of helping children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of education.
A recent study conducted by educator Sarina Grosswald and clinical neuropsychologist William Stixrud, PhD, showed that children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder who practised Transcendental Meditation for ten minutes twice daily at school improved significantly in areas such as 'organizational skills, memory, strategizing, mental flexibility, attention, and impulsivity'. They also found that the children's levels of anxiety, depression, and stress were cut by 45 to 50 per cent.
Ms Grosswald said the results of the study surpassed her expectations.
The article explained that 'Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a specific form of meditation. It is a simple, natural process that helps the mind settle down to a state of 'restful alertness'. '
Ms Grosswald said that people are sometimes skeptical about the ability of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder to meditate: 'There's a concept that it's something that requires focus. TM is the exact opposite of that. It's effortless. It's natural, and it uses the natural tendency of the mind.'
Almost 4.5 million children in the United States have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The drug Ritalin is the most common treatment of the disorder, yet according to Strixude, 'It's an imperfect treatment. Certainly very few kids are functioning optimally on Ritalin.'
According to the article, 'Researchers and educators across the country are looking for a solution to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It may not replace medication just yet, but some say meditation could be a simple treatment with big results.'
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
