Teachers get a lesson helping stressed teens know some 'inner bliss'
by Linda Borg

9 May 2006
On 9 May 2006 Providence Journal reported:
When the Transcendental Meditation Programme was introduced in a highly stressed Washington, DC school, the transformation was 'nothing short of extraordinary'. Principal Dr George Rutherford said that from daily outbreaks of shooting and other violence, the school became 'a safe haven'.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of education.
Dr Rutherford said that after the students began to practise the Transcendental Meditation Programme the atmosphere changed almost immediately: 'That same week, I didn't have to stop one fight. Our test scores went up. Our attendance went up. Our school became a safe haven.'
The Providence Journal reported that according to Bob Roth, a member of the National Committee for Stress-Free Schools: 'In an age when teachers are desperate to find ways to bring order to chaotic classrooms, when adults are fearful that anti-depressants might cause more harm than good, TM offers a natural stress-buster.'
Mr Roth's message was part of a Providence, Rhode Island conference entitled Improving Academic Achievement: Preventing and Treating Stress, Anxiety, Depression and Learning Disabilities. organized by the Rhode Island Committee for Stress-Free Schools. The conference was attended by over 100 local educators.
Also speaking at the conference were students from Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa, where all students practise the Transcendental Meditation Technique.
Donielle Freeberg, a Maharishi School senior said 'I feel a deep sense of peace. Every day, this happiness grows deeper.'
Her twin sister Amelia said that the TM Technique 'allows me to not get caught up in the whirlwind. When I meditate, I'm left with silence and that quality of inner bliss remains with me.'
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
